MYLO 是來自蘇格蘭的年輕音樂人 Myles MacInnes 的化身，一如當代許多音樂創作人，他的音樂大多誕生於他工作室裡的 Apple G4。細數他音樂裡俯仰皆拾跳動且肥厚的 Bass 底線，多變的電子音色與聲音取樣所搭建成的場景，還有讓人忍不住跟著扭動的各種碎拍節奏，其實都不是太陌生的元素；但或許他就有這方面的天才吧？這些東西在他手裡變成一首首新鮮得讓人愉快且難忘的美好作品，不禁讓我懷疑在MYLO 的背後是否有個龐大後製團隊來支援他。而 " Destroy Rock & Roll " 正是他展現洋溢才華的首作，完美地兼顧成熟與創意的天秤兩端，也難怪在 2004 年會如黑馬一般成為歐美傳媒的至愛。
接著來看看專輯裡的作品。以緩拍開場的 " Valley of The Dolls " 與 " Sunworshipper " 很適合不論是晴天或陰雨的午後；不過" Sunworshipper " 用上那段人聲旁白的取樣其實有點煞風景。兩個版本的 " Muscle Car " 是 MacInnes 在舊金山海灣區生活那段時間的音樂日記，從美式改裝車延伸海岸城市生活的日夜景色與美式娛樂文化的抽象描繪。這首曲子的原裝版十分秀麗，改裝版 " Muscle Car Reform Reprise " 則充滿了 Electro Funk 的多彩與糜爛，真的像是原廠跑車與改裝跑車之間的差異，加上一旁機械化女 Vocal 唸出一串經典美國跑車的名字 ( Camaro，Chevelle，Camino，Daytona，Trans-Am，Mustang，Charger，GTO )，令我這個車迷血脈賁張。
" In My Arms " 令人吃驚地用上了 Boy Meets Girl 的 " Waiting For The Star To Fall " 與 Kim Carne 的 "Bette Davis Eyes" 兩首歌的取樣來鋪陳出這首歌滿滿的 80 年代美好氣息，連歌名都取自 " Waiting For The Star To Fall " 的副歌，這也是我最初誤以為今年 25 歲的 Mylo 跟我一樣是個 1970 年代出生的老傢伙的主因。另外在 " Zenophile " 裡又用上了我最愛的 Dusty Springfield 一曲 " Where Am I Going " 的管絃樂曲樣，讓人更確定 MYLO 對於流行音樂的涉略真的很廣泛。專輯內最讓人感到熟習的莫過於這兩年被數不清的各類電子舞曲收錄到爛掉的 " Drop The Pressure "。輕快的 Break 節拍與充滿 Funk 色彩的的旋律線，穿插新浪潮氣息的 Synth 音色與 Vocoder 人聲，讓人聯想起 " Discovery " 時期的 Daft Punk，但 MYLO的年輕大膽在此略勝一籌。
" Destroy Rock & Roll " 在 2004 年底被許多音樂傳媒選為年度最佳的跳舞音樂專輯，然而遲至今日我才來寫這篇介紹，說實在已是太晚。不過由於台灣沒有廠商代理，自己過了很久才拿到這張專輯，聽過之後的確也心有戚戚焉。想想這麼美好的旋律，還是得說說自己的感想來跟大家分享一下，希望還沒聽過的人有機會請找來聽聽看。
